Listening skills are essential to many business roles. Good listening is vital when making decisions, reaching agreements, dealing with customer complaints and getting and giving(such as policy, instructions and feedback).  Effective listening is one of the most beneficial ways to learn and grow.  It allows the perspectives, knowledge, ideas and opinions of others to enter our mind and heart.  As long as there are different perspectives and experiences, there's always something we could learn from some else by effective listening. If you want to improve your life practically, socially and developmentally, aim to become an effective listener.

Description
It's no wonder that, as adults, we re-create the same conditions as our first twenty years spent being compared to others when we design our work environments.  It's what we know. The major problem with performance management systems today is that they have become substitutes for the vital act of actually managing people.  Elaine Pulakos, a PhD psychologist and  CEO of PDRI, a top consulting firm in this area, observed in a 2011 article in Industrial and Organizational Psychology 4, "Why is Performance Management Broken?" that "[a] significant part of the problem is that performance management has been reduced to prescribed, often discrete steps within formal administrative systems...Although formal performance management systems are intended to drive...the day-to-day activities of communicating ongoing expectations, setting short-term objectives, and giving continual guidance...these behaviors seem to have become largely disconnected from the formal systems."  Source:  Work Rules by Laszlo Bock

Governments use leases for a variety of routine transactions. Historically, these have been divided into two categories: operating leases and capital leases. Learn about the GASB's new single model for leases, which is effective beginning 06/15/2022. Topics discussed will include determining whether a transaction is a lease or a financed purchase, how to value lease assets and liabilities, and enhanced note disclosures. This standard could require a fair bit of advance preparation by more than the just the Finance Department. Learn the practical steps your government can start taking now to prepare.

25 minutes on highlights of sales/use tax collection and remittance, going over some of the topics in the prior year presentation that local governments would most likely see in their operations (admissions, real property rent, remittance requirements, the rare use tax local governments that have an electric utility, etc.); 25 minutes on the same general premise as sales tax, but for Tourist Development Tax; the last 50 minutes would cover what to expect from a sales/use/TD tax audit: common issues, sampling, timeframes, notifications, statute of limitations, and would cover some “war stories” from the speaker’s field experience performing these audits/consulting engagements.
